HIGHS AND LOWS OF MELBOURNE CUP BETS

The betting market for the Melbourne Cup has seen a number of betting swings on the major contenders, with the original favourite Efficient ($13) now generally two points longer than he was when markets first opened three months ago. However, bets totalling $108 were matched at a price as low as $5.80 for Efficient on Betfair.

The original second and third favourites, Fiumicino and Yeats, are no longer in the race, with Equine Influenza taking its toll on a number of leading entrants.
