The Sydney Turf Club, in support of the racing industry through the equine influenza crisis, has announced it will open a public Betting Auditorium, which will mark the start of Spring this Saturday September 1.
The Auditorium, located on the ground floor public stand at Sydney’s Canterbury Park, will offer full betting facilities with bookmakers, totes and vision for all interstate races running this Saturday afternoon. Tote facilities will also be available for the Greyhound and Harness meetings. This will be in lieu of all the NSW thoroughbred racing that has been postponed due to the onset of the highly publicised Equine Influenza.
STC invite people to come and watch or have a punt on live races at Caulfield, Morphettville, Hobart and Perth in a true racing environment. There will be fresh food and beverage outlets, free admission and free parking, with the Auditorium open from 11am to 6pm.

“Whilst we are disappointed not to be celebrating the launch of Spring racing with the million dollar Tooheys New Golden Rose Day at Rosehill Gardens, we are taking whatever initiative we can to help the industry through this crisis” says STC CEO Michael Kenny. “The immediate response to this initiative is very positive and we are expecting a good attendance which will confirm the necessity for punters to be oncourse”.
The STC has the support of Racing NSW, the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and the Department Primary Industries, as there are no horses stabled at Canterbury Park. This is an applauded initiative that keeps people connected with racing whilst we are at a statewide standstill.
