Tab Sportsbet is once again offering huge overs about some nominated runners in this year's Melbourne Cup.
From 10.30am on Saturday 4th August, TAB Sportsbet will offer double the opening price on the three leading Japanese chances, Pop Rock, Delta Blues and Tosho Knight, in the race that stops a nation.
The promotional price will cease when each horse's total national payout reaches $1,000,000 or at the close of business on Sunday 5 August, whichever occurs first. The maximum bet is $50, with a maximum of one bet per customer. Doubles betting involving the Melbourne Cup will not be available during the promotional period.
Of course, punters in TAB agencies will be able to break this maximum bet rule with cash betting, but the rule does prevent large punters staking huge bets over the internet, before smaller punters can get set.
While TAB Sportsbet kept the money in the bag when last year's nominated runners, Headturner and Railings, both finished unplaced, they were caned in 2005 when offering 20/1 about Makybe Diva, who returned a three-times winner starting at 7/2 on raceday.
