Smart sprinter Wasted Emotions has been euthanized in New Zealand after breaking a leg in a trial.
Trained in Australia by astute Goulburn trainer Danny Williams, Wasted Emotions had been transferred kiwi conditioner Tony Pike for a tilt at the Group I double, the Railway Handicap and the Telegraph Handicap.
Wasted Emotions contested a Te Aroha barrier trial on Tuesday and smashed a fetlock past the post, after winning the trial.
“Very very disappointing,” Danny Williams said.
“To lose one of your better horses is just shattering but unfortunately it’s one of those things that happen is racing.
“He was such a good horse to us and he was a horse that was such a trier so it’s a big blow to us.”
A seven-year-old gelding, Wasted Emotions won 11 of his 26 starts and over $500,000 in prizemoney with his biggest win coming in Listed Hall Mark Stakes.
